"I had no idea Israel was so technologically advanced. It showed us a side of Israel we had never seen before. We had such a great time!"
Debra Langleben (summer 2005) a student from Montreal’s Herzliah High School who experienced the Institute with approximately 50 other students.
This was at least my tenth visit to the Institute, and without question with each visit I become more impressed and realize the great and wonderful things happening at the Weizmann which have and will benefit all of Mankind everywhere in the World. The physical buildings and the incredible grounds are in a world of their own, and the moment one enters through the gates, you are transformed into a world which is beyond description. MORE IMPORTANT, meeting the Administrative Staff and of course the Scientists, is without question something that is beyond words. These People are totally devoted to what they are doing, and with all on their minds, and their incredible busy days, they take the time to meet and greet People such as myself to help explain the great work and great new things they are working on, in so many areas of Science and Medicine. I was so impressed by the International Visitors Center, and the time given me and my two Guests, in touring the Campus and Science Labs for the better part of a day.I can only urge anyone visiting Israel to take the time to pay a visit to our World Renown Weizmann Institute in Rehovot.
Marvin Tanner (winter 2006)
“As we entered this wonderful campus we were overwhelmed by the fantastic welcoming reception we received from the staff and faculty,” writes Dr. Norman Barwin, Chairman of the Ottawa Chapter of Weizmann Canada, following a visit he arranged with the Canada-Israel Cultural Foundation. “This was an unforgettable experience.”
Dr. Barwin’s reaction was typical of those Canadians who visited the Institute recently. Similar sentiments were reported by Montreal Rabbi Leigh Lerner, who also arranged for a group to visit the Institute as part of a trip to Israel. “The amazing mirror array, designed to harness and focus the energy of the sun, the extensive laboratory spaces, the opportunity for scientists and mathematicians from many disciplines to interact on a calming garden campus – these will surprise and delight the visitor,” he enthused in a note to Susan Stern, Weizmann Canada Executive Director, Eastern Region. “Weizmann Institute makes Israel a scientific light to the nations.”
For Ruth Lazarus, former Executive Director for the eastern region of Weizmann Canada, who first visited the Weizmann campus almost two decades ago, there were still new things to see and do. “The entire time was a learning process,” she writes.
Entering the campus of the Weizmann Institute, one is struck both by the complexity of facilities, and the energy generated by its diverse population. Scientists discussed research over a cappuccino on a terrace while local kids explored the Clure Garden; Scholarship students were guided through lab experiments while scientists and potential industry partners discussed commercialization of new technology. What we witnessed during our visit was not a one-time occurence, but rather, a very small taste of the daily cycle of discovery, study and implementation of new and exciting science.
